Damascus, Sept. 10 (SANA) Syria’s National Information Technology Services Authority has completed the transition to new software for the .sy domain registry, strengthening the security, reliability and stability of domain name services for users and institutions.
The Authority said on Facebook Thursday that the upgrade replaces previous software whose support ended in 2017 and provides more stable domain management and clearer access to registration information through RDAP and WHOIS services.
The locally developed system, built by Syrian specialists, also supports the Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP), allowing accredited registrars to connect their systems to the new platform and manage domains and related data.
Authority Director General Shahada al-Ibrahim said the upgrade marked an important step in developing Syria’s digital infrastructure and creating a more sustainable and scalable system for managing the national domain.
The Authority is also preparing to implement Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) for .sy, which would add another layer of protection and strengthen trust in websites and services using the Syrian domain.
The .sy country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) is the official internet domain assigned to the Syrian Arab Republic.
