Damascus, Sept. 08 (SANA) One person was killed and 18 others injured in traffic accidents across Syria over the past 24 hours, according to the Syrian Civil Defense at the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management.
The Civil Defense said Tuesday in a statement posted on its Telegram channel that its teams responded to 15 traffic accidents across the country, which left one person dead and 18 others injured.
The injured received first aid before being transferred to hospitals for necessary treatment. Civil Defense teams cleared the aftermath of the accidents and secured the affected sites.
The Civil Defense urged drivers to reduce speed, ensure their vehicles are in good technical condition and check their brakes and windshield wipers.
It warned drivers against unsafe behaviors that can distract them while driving, including using mobile phones.
Civil Defense teams separately responded to 82 fires involving homes, commercial shops, grass, trees, garbage and electrical wires.
The fires were extinguished and their sites cooled, with no injuries reported. The damage was limited to property losses.
The Civil Defense urged people not to light fires in forested areas or agricultural fields, and warned against throwing cigarette butts or glass containers along roadsides, particularly near agricultural crops and forests.
It further advised against burning dry grass around homes or along roadsides and called for its removal through safe methods.
Two days earlier, two people were killed and 15 others injured in 86 fires and traffic accidents in various parts of Syria, according to the Civil Defense.
