Vienna, Sep.3 (SANA) The Syrian Arab Republic, represented by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and the Atomic Energy Commission of Syria, presented an official briefing to representatives and ambassadors of member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), outlining national efforts to address the legacy of undeclared nuclear activities linked to the deposed regime.
In a session held on Thursday, Syria reaffirmed its full commitment to cooperation, transparency and responsibility, including the voluntary declaration of previously undeclared nuclear material, placing it under international safeguards and providing the necessary access and facilities.
It highlighted its sovereign decision to open Deir Ezzor site to the IAEA after more than 18 years and to disclose an undeclared site containing nuclear material, saying its continued broad cooperation demonstrates its commitment to transparency and strengthening international confidence.
Syria called for removing “the non-compliance item” from the IAEA agenda and closing the file during the current session of the agency’s Board of Governors, while reaffirming its right to develop a peaceful nuclear program in support of national development.
