Aleppo, Aug. 30 (SANA) A convoy carrying 46 families left camps in Atarib area of western Aleppo countryside on Sunday to return voluntarily to their hometowns in several Syrian provinces, under the supervision of the directorate of Social Affairs and Labor and in cooperation with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and partner organizations.
Head of the Social Affairs and Labor department in Atarib, Omar Rostom, told SANA that the convoy included families from the Bab al-Nour, al-Khairat, al-Qalamoun, Ghitaa al-Rahma, Qaryat al-Birr, al-Kamouna, al-Khairat 2, Taybeh, al-Jurf, al-Bashir, Tal al-Karama, al-Israa, Deniz, al-Bunyan and Cordoba 2 camps.
The families returned to their areas of origin in the countryside of Idlib, Aleppo, Damascus and Homs, Rostom said.
He added that registration for voluntary return remains open, with additional groups expected to leave in the coming period.
Rostom also highlighted challenges that continue to hinder the return of displaced families, including a lack of housing, shortages in some basic services and limited willingness among some camp residents to return.
The convoy is part of continuing voluntary returns from camps in northern Syria, particularly in the Idlib and Aleppo countryside, to families’ areas of origin.
The latest previous convoy departed on Aug. 27, when 61 families returned to their hometowns in the countryside of Aleppo, Hama, Idlib, Raqqa and Homs.
