Cairo, Aug. 24 (SANA) – Arab Parliament Speaker, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, discussed Monday with Syria’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League and head of the Syrian mission in Cairo, Yahya Diab, ways to strengthen Arab-Syrian parliamentary cooperation and coordination and support joint Arab action.
Al Yamahi congratulated Diab on the formation of Syria’s new People’s Assembly and the start of its work, describing the step as an important milestone in building Syrian state institutions.
He expressed the Arab Parliament’s readiness to enhance cooperation with the new assembly at the earliest opportunity in a way that serves shared interests.
Al Yamahi reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s firm stance in support of Syria’s sovereignty, national unity, territorial integrity and stability, stressing that a strong and stable Syria is a fundamental pillar of Arab national security.
He said the parliament looks forward to Syria restoring its natural position in the Arab region and playing an active role in joint Arab action.
The Arab Parliament speaker renewed his condemnation of repeated Israeli attacks and violations against Syrian territory, stressing that the parliament would continue to defend Syria’s sovereignty and keep the Syrian issue prominently and regularly on the agenda of its committees and plenary sessions.
For his part, Diab praised the Arab Parliament’s role in supporting Syria and defending Arab causes, as well as its positions in support of Syria’s sovereignty, unity and stability.
He also commended al-Yamahi’s efforts to boost Arab parliamentary diplomacy and employ it in serving the interests of Arab peoples and defending their just causes.
Diab expressed Syria’s interest in strengthening cooperation and coordination between the Arab Parliament and the Syrian People’s Assembly to advance Arab parliamentary relations and enhance Syria’s presence in joint Arab action.
