Damascus, Aug. 20 (SANA) Five people died and 27 were injured in road accidents and fires across Syria over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management said.
Syrian Civil Defense teams responded to 28 road accidents that left two dead and 26 injured, providing first aid, transporting the injured to hospitals and securing accident sites.
Teams also responded to 85 fires involving homes, shops, grass, trees, garbage and electrical wires, leaving one person injured and causing material damage.
Separately, three people died early Thursday in a traffic accident on al-Dimas Road in Damascus Countryside.
Rafeh al-Akash, director of the Operations Center at the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate in Damascus Countryside, told SANA that teams recovered two bodies and transported them to al-Mouwasat Hospital, while Health Ministry ambulance teams transported the third.
Al-Akash said teams secured the accident site and facilitated traffic.
The ministry urged drivers to observe speed limits, check their vehicles and avoid distractions, particularly mobile phone use. It also warned against lighting fires in forests and agricultural fields, discarding cigarette butts or glass containers along roadsides, and burning dry grass.
