Damascus, June 13 (SANA) Public Works and Housing Minister Mustafa Abdul Razzaq met with a delegation from the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to discuss housing projects and measures aimed at supporting the return of displaced Syrians and refugees.

According to the ministry, the talks focused on developing alternative housing solutions and improving conditions needed to facilitate sustainable returns and long-term stability.

Abdul Razzaq said the government is prioritizing work under the “Zero Camps” campaign, which seeks to reduce reliance on displacement camps through expanded housing projects and improved urban planning.

He also stressed the need to address stalled housing developments and find practical solutions to complete them despite challenges linked to inflation and damage to infrastructure.

The minister called for enhanced cooperation with UNHCR to secure technical and logistical support that could accelerate implementation of housing projects.

The two sides agreed to hold technical meetings in the coming period to identify priority projects and establish implementation mechanisms for joint housing and stabilization initiatives.

The “Zero Camps” campaign forms part of the national vision of  “Syria Without Camps,” a government initiative implemented in cooperation with the United Nations that aims to provide long-term solutions for displaced people, support returns to their areas of origin and improve living conditions.

UNHCR, established in 1950, leads international efforts to protect refugees and support durable solutions, including shelter assistance and programs designed to facilitate safe and sustainable returns.
