Damascus, June 2 (SANA) The Syrian Transitional Justice Commission continues efforts to uncover the truth and hold accountable those responsible for grave violations committed by the deposed regime, with particular focus on the case of Dr. Rania al-Abbasi and her six children, one of the most painful humanitarian cases in Syria’s recent history.
The Commission stressed Tuesday that accountability will not be limited to direct perpetrators, but will extend to all individuals who ordered, incited, facilitated, or participated in the crime, as part of a broader transitional justice process aimed at delivering justice for victims, reinforcing the rule of law, and preventing future violations.
In an interview with SANA, the Head of Accountability and Prosecution at the Commission, lawyer Radif Mustafa, said the case represents a complex crime involving arbitrary detention and extrajudicial killing, rising to the level of crimes against humanity under international criminal law.

He noted that revealing the fate of the family is not the end of the process, but rather the beginning of a comprehensive path toward full truth disclosure and accountability for all those involved.
Mustafa emphasized that the justice process follows an integrated framework addressing serious violations through six parallel tracks: truth-seeking, accountability, institutional reform, guarantees of non-recurrence, preservation of national memory, and the promotion of civil peace.
He underlined that accountability is based on individual responsibility rather than collective punishment, targeting all those proven to have been involved at any level, including within the chain of command that oversaw systematic violations during the era of the deposed regime.
The Commission affirmed that the ultimate goal of transitional justice in Syria is to ensure justice for victims, establish the truth, prosecute perpetrators, and build a stable and secure society grounded in the rule of law.
Earlier on Saturday, the National Commission for Missing Persons (NCMP) announced that it had reached reliable and corroborated conclusions indicating, with a high degree of professional certainty, the death of the six children of Dr. Rania al-Abbasi.
