Damascus, April 24 (SANA) Syrian authorities have arrested Amjad Youssef, the main perpetrator in the Tadamon massacre, following a coordinated security operation, Interior Minister Anas Khattab said on Friday.

In a post on the social media platform X, Khattab said Youssef is the primary accused in the killings and said he was now in custody after a “well-executed” operation.

Khattab confirmed that the arrest was carried out with precision as part of ongoing efforts to pursue those implicated in the case.

A security source told SANA that Youssef was detained in the al-Ghab Plain in the western countryside of Hama province.

The massacre took place on April 16, 2013, in the Tadamon neighborhood of Damascus, when at least 288 civilians were killed, according to documented estimates.

The killings were carried out by members of the deposed regime’s military intelligence, who executed victims and buried them in mass graves.

The incident gained global attention in 2022 after videos filmed by the perpetrators themselves were leaked, showing detainees, blindfolded and with their hands tied, being led to a pit and shot one by one. The footage, considered among the most detailed visual evidence of war crimes in Syria, helped identify key suspects, including Amjad Youssef, and became central to ongoing efforts to pursue accountability.
