Damascus, Feb. 23 (SANA) – Syrian social insurance authorities discussed reform options for the national insurance system with a delegation from the International Labour Organization (ILO), focusing on improving efficiency and long-term financial sustainability.
The talks reviewed a draft actuarial study being conducted jointly by the Public Institution for Social Insurance and the ILO, alongside key challenges facing the current system and proposed policy recommendations.
Discussions centered on long-term financial assessment, the potential impact of legal amendments, and the fiscal implications of adjusting core assumptions underpinning the insurance framework.
Both sides examined reform scenarios aimed at strengthening financial sustainability and administrative performance, while benefiting from ILO technical expertise in aligning Syria’s social protection system with international best practices.
The actuarial study is expected to provide an evidence-based foundation for future legislative and structural reforms to the social insurance system.
