Damascus, Feb. 15 (SANA) Iraq participated in this year’s Damascus International Book Fair with a wide range of intellectual, literary and humanitarian publications, reflecting the deep-rooted cultural ties between the Syrian and Iraqi people.
Representatives of Iraqi publishing houses said the Syrian reader is a key partner in supporting and enriching creativity and cultural awareness.
Ahmed Salam, owner of Jasad Publishing House, said their participation in the fair stems from their belief in Syria’s pioneering intellectual and cultural role, adding that the fair serves as an important gateway for re-establishing bilateral cultural relations.
Salam highlighted Syrian readers’ interest in Iraqi books, known for their intellectual depth and bold approach, noting that direct interaction with visitors opened avenues for exchanging views and developing future initiatives in publishing and distribution.
The supervisor of Qandil Publishing House’s pavilion said communication with Syrian readers has been fruitful since the first day, noting the willingness of Syrian and Arab publishing houses to cooperate with their Iraqi counterparts, which contributes to the wider circulation of Arab literature.
He added that the Iraqi pavilion served as a platform for cultural exchange among intellectuals and publishers from various Arab countries.
Visitors to the Iraqi pavilions described the participation as a rich cultural experience, citing the diversity of literature, thought and humanities publications, as well as the opportunity to discover new Arab authors.
