Damascus, Jan. 21 (SANA) Syria’s Ministry of Awqaf called Wednesday on religious officials and educators to adopt a moderate, inclusive religious discourse that promotes unity and love while avoiding rhetoric that could fuel sectarian, ethnic, or denominational tensions.
The ministry announced on its Telegram channel that the directive implements Presidential Decree No. 13 of 2026. The decree aims to protect mosques and religious institutions, turning them into centers for community cohesion and fostering peaceful coexistence among Syria’s diverse social groups.
The circular also stresses the importance of guaranteeing citizens’ rights and preserving Syria’s cultural and social diversity, encouraging the community to participate in building a new Syria founded on unity and mutual respect.
Provincial directorates of Awqaf have been tasked with monitoring compliance and ensuring the decree is enforced on the ground.
The decree follows President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s affirmation that Syrian Kurds are an integral part of the nation, and that their cultural and linguistic identity is inseparable from the unified Syrian identity, within a framework of citizenship, pluralism, and respect for diversity.
