Daraa, Jan.13 (SANA) Hajja Wasila Abu Nuqta (Umm Muhammad), from the city of Tafas in Daraa countryside, has passed away after a long life of struggle in the face of the tyrant, ousted regime.
Hajja Wasila, has been called in southern Syria as the “Khansaa of Hauran” for her extraordinary patience and sacrifice. Over the course of the Syrian revolution, she lost eight of her sons, all of whom were killed in the struggle for freedom and dignity against the deposed regime.
Her son, Nabil al-Zoubi, a former detainee in the regime prisons, told SANA that his mother, who passed away last Sunday, lost her first son, Munif, in September 2011. The years that followed brought further losses until 2018, when Adham, Youssef, Zaidan, Mahmoud, Abdel Nasser, Muhammad, and Khaldoun were all killed.
He added that she refused to accept condolences after each death, insisting instead: “I do not want condolences, only congratulations, for I am the mother of martyrs.”
The most painful losses for her were the deaths of her youngest son, Zaidan, and her eldest, Muhammad. Afterward, she devoted herself to raising nearly 30 grandchildren, the eldest of whom was only eight years old at the time.
Known for her patience and strength of will, Umm Muhammad remained resilient in her belief that the sacrifices of Syrian families would ultimately bring victory for the revolution and a better future.
The deceased has come to be regarded as a symbol of resilience and sacrifice in Daraa province and across Syria.
