Jordan, Türkiye urge halt to Israeli attacks on Syria, back sovereignty

Amman, Dec. 15 (SANA) Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said during a phone call Monday that Israeli attacks on Syrian territory must stop, emphasizing respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Petra reported.

The two ministers stressed the importance of continued joint work to support the Syrian government’s efforts toward reconstruction and to ensure the country’s security and stability, as well as safeguarding the rights and safety of all citizens.

Earlier today, Fidan said that a stable Syria free of external interference would be a major gain for the region, adding that Türkiye will continue to stand by the Syrian people.

On Gaza, Safadi and Fidan underscored the need to fully adhere to the ceasefire agreement, begin implementing its second phase, and compel Israel to meet its commitments under international law. They called for the immediate lifting of restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into the enclave.

The ministers also warned of the dangers posed by Israel’s unlawful measures in the occupied West Bank, saying they undermine de-escalation efforts and prospects for achieving a just peace based on the two-state solution.

They affirmed the need to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and rejected attempts to undermine or obstruct its humanitarian role.

Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip has continued since Oct. 7, 2023, leaving more than 70,660 people killed and over 171,000 injured, in addition to widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure.
