At a joint press conference following the talks, al-Shaibani told reporters that discussions focused on restoring diplomatic representation, facilitating the return of Syrian refugees, and establishing a joint Syrian-Danish business council to promote economic cooperation.

Al-Shaibani hailed Denmark’s commitment to supporting Syria and praised its positions in the UN Security Council, as well as its support for Syria’s unity and sovereign decision-making. He added that Syria welcomes Danish investment, particularly in renewable energy, and described the country’s economic vision as one based on “international partnership and good governance.”

Regarding recent Israeli attacks on Syria, al-Shaibani reiterated Damascus condemnation, calling the strikes violations of international law and urging international bodies to intervene.

The Danish Foreign Minister said his visit coincided with Syria’s national celebrations of liberation from the former regime. He stressed Denmark’s intention to “move from partnership to full support” in its engagement with Damascus and indicated that Copenhagen is considering increasing humanitarian assistance to Syrians.

He also said Denmark hopes that sanctions on Syria could eventually be eased to allow Danish companies to invest there.

On the issue of Syrian refugees in Denmark, Rasmussen said many would like to return to their country when conditions permit. “We have formed a special committee to study some of these cases, and we will discuss them with the Syrian government,” he said.

Rasmussen added that several Danish companies have expressed interest in exploring opportunities in Syria and expressed hope that Denmark will soon appoint an ambassador to Damascus.
