Syria and Aga Khan Foundation Sign MoU to Strengthen Disaster Response

Syria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster ManagementSyria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management and the Aga Khan Foundation signed on Sunday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation in disaster preparedness, humanitarian response, and sustainable development.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Ahmad Qaziz, Assistant Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, and Mohannad Obeido, Executive Director of the Aga Khan Foundation in Syria.

The agreement sets a framework to enhance Syria’s disaster response, aligning with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and core humanitarian standards. It focuses on improving community preparedness through training, risk assessments, early warning systems, and enhancing coordination among response efforts.

Dr. Qaziz highlighted the importance of this partnership in building a more resilient society, while Obeido emphasized the Aga Khan Foundation’s commitment to applying its expertise to strengthen Syria’s disaster response in line with global best practices.

Ghofran Ajoub, Aga Khan Network’s Representative in Syria, stressed the need for collaboration across sectors to ensure local communities are fully prepared for emergencies and able to respond effectively.
