Red Crescent Solidarity Vigil in Daraa on the International Day of the Disappeared

Daraa, SANA – The Syrian Arab Red Crescent organized a solidarity stand in front of the branch building in Daraa Governorate today, on the occasion of the International Day of Missing Persons, which falls on August 30 of each year, with the participation of a crowd of volunteers and workers in the organization.

The solidarity stand aims to highlight the suffering of thousands of families experiencing the pain of loss and waiting, and to affirm their legitimate right to know the fate of their loved ones.

The organizers of this event indicated that organizing the vigil reflects the Syrian Arab Red Crescent’s commitment to its humanitarian responsibilities regarding the issue of the missing, emphasizing that this issue is an integral part of the organization’s core humanitarian work.

This vigil comes in line with humanitarian initiatives being implemented at the national level, highlighting the importance of the missing persons issue and calling on various parties to continue their efforts to support grieving and affected families and alleviate their suffering.

The issue of missing persons in Syria is one of the most sensitive and complex, given the profound humanitarian impact of the former regime’s crimes. On May 17, President Ahmad al-Sharaa issued Decree No. 19 establishing the National Commission for Missing Persons, tasked with investigating and uncovering the fate of missing and forcibly disappeared persons, documenting cases, establishing a national database, and providing legal and humanitarian support to their families.
