Syria and Turkey sign Military Cooperation Agreement

Ankara, SANA – Syrian and Turkish Defense Ministries signed Wednesday an agreement of joint military cooperation to enhance the “capabilities of the Syrian Arab Army, develop its institutions and structure, and support the comprehensive security sector reform process”.

The agreement includes:

• Regular exchange of military personnel to participate in specialized training courses aimed at raising operational readiness and enhancing the ability to work together.

• Specialized skills training: programs in the fields of counterterrorism, mine clearance, cyber defense, military engineering, logistics, and peacekeeping operations, in accordance with international best practices.

• Technical assistance: sending specialized experts to support the process of modernizing military systems, organizational structures, and command capabilities.

This agreement comes within the framework of developing the Syrian Arab Army by training its personnel professionally and in accordance with international standards, thus reducing the risk of violations that may be committed by untrained factions.

The New Syria is working to build its national institutions on professional foundations that guarantee the State’s Sovereignty and the rule of law, on top, the foundation of a modern, disciplined, and capable army that constitutes a fundamental pillar for protecting the security, stability, and territorial integrity of Syria.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaibani, Minister of Defense Major General Murhaf Abu Qasra, and Head of Intelligence Hussein Salameh arrived in the Turkish capital, Ankara, Wednesday for talks with Turkish officials.
