More than 273,000 Syrians voluntarily returned to their country from Turkey in six mont

Ankara, SANA-Vice President of Turkey, Cevdet Yılmaz, announced on Friday that more than 273,000 Syrian refugees have voluntarily returned to their country from Turkey in six months.

“Turkey has presented a test worthy of its history and civilization in the Syrian issue, by hosting for many years our Syrian brothers fleeing an oppressive regime” Anadolu Agency quoted Yılmaz as saying in a speech he delivered in the southern province of Gaziantep during the opening of the main building dedicated to supporting the voluntary return of refugees.

He pointed out that a new era has begun in Syria after the fall of the former Assad regime, saying: “We may have suffered some difficulties associated with this matter for a long time, but we, the government and the people, will see its benefits for future generations.”

Yılmaz said that the Turkish people and government have demonstrated a historic stance against all provocations and misinformation regarding the Syrian refugee issue in the country, adding, “Our president has taken a very firm stance on this issue, despite the risk of incurring political costs from time to time.”

The Turkish Vice President reiterated Turkey’s support for Syria’s territorial integrity, stability, and sovereignty, saying, “We look forward to developing Syria’s institutional structure under a political umbrella that includes all its components, repairing its infrastructure, and accelerating its economic and social development as soon as possible.”
