Qatar reiterates support for independent and international mechanism in Syria

New York, SANA- Qatar State reiterated support for Syrian government and people in achieving aspirations for justice, rule of law, reconciliation, stability, and sustainable peace, and it affirmed support for International, Impartial, and Independent Mechanism.

In a statement delivered by UN Permanent Representative of Qatar State, Alya Ahmed Saif al-Thani during General Assembly meeting, Qatar hailed the Syrian government’s responsiveness and constructive cooperation with International Mechanism, within the framework of the government’s clear commitment to justice and accountability, in addition to the tangible steps taken by the government to cooperate with various international and UN bodies.

The statement, posted Wednesday on Qatari Foreign Affairs Ministry website, noted to the progress made by International Mechanism in enhancing capacity to handle, process, and analyze large amounts of complex information and evidences.

The statement appreciated the continued engagement within civil society, cooperation with relevant international bodies, particularly Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, communication with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry and Independent Institution for Missing Persons.
