Qatar’s Chargé d’Affaires to Syria: President al-Sharaa’s visit to Doha marks a step toward greater openness

Damascus, SANA-Khalifa Abdullah al-Mahmoud, Qatar’s charge d’Affaires to Syria, has affirmed that the official visit of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Mr. Ahmad al-Sharaa, to Qatar represents a new step toward greater openness and coordination between the two countries on various political, economic, and humanitarian issues.

In an interview with the Qatar News Agency (QNA), al-Mahmoud explained that President al-Sharaa’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and explore avenues for mutual cooperation that serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples. He emphasized the significant implications of this visit, particularly at a time of rapid regional transformations.

Regarding Qatar’s role in supporting Syria, al-Mahmoud highlighted that Doha has consistently been active in addressing Syrian humanitarian issues, especially in the sectors of education, health, and relief.

He also noted Qatar’s growing interest in exploring opportunities for early economic recovery support, contributing to alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people and promoting stability.

On the return of Qatar’s diplomatic representation to Damascus, al-Mahmoud stated that Qatar’s position has remained steadfast in supporting the aspirations of the Syrian people. He added that the resumption of diplomatic ties followed a careful assessment of the current circumstances and developments, serving as a practical entry point for fostering constructive dialogue and bridging perspectives.

Al-Mahmoud emphasized that Qatar and Syria have indeed entered a new phase of cooperation based on clarity, trust, and integration.

He noted that the relationship between the two countries is rooted in deep historical and fraternal ties, and the coming phase will focus on building and stabilizing these connections. Qatar believes in the importance of Arab and humanitarian cooperation, asserting that strengthening relations among brotherly countries in the region will positively impact regional security and stability.
