Dujarric: Syria's status as a UN member state remains unchanged

New York, SANA- UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said Tuesday that Syria’s status at United Nations has not changed due to the decision of changing visas of Syrian mission members, nor does affect the participation of mission’s permanent members in the UN works.

During a press conference on Monday, and in response to a question about amending legal status of the Syrian mission in New York, Dujarric said “The status of the Syrian Arab Republic in the UN has not changed, and it is still a member state at the organization”.

Dujarric noted that the issue of membership is subject to the provisions of the UN Charter.

An Official source at Foreign Affairs Ministry told SANA that the procedure to amend the legal status of Syrian mission in New York is purely technical and administrative, related to the previous affiliated mission, and does not reflect any change toward the new Syrian government.
