The Hague, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Asaad al-Shaibani tweeted on X platform that Syria, for the first time in its history, addressed directly the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and affirmed its commitment to resolving the crisis it inherited from the Assad regime 14 years ago.

Al-Shaibani stressed that it was our duty to ensure that these crimes are not repeated and to achieve justice for the victims of Assad’s chemical massacres.

“My meeting with Karim Khan, chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), reinforced the path towards transitional justice, that for 14 years, and even long before that, the world has failed to achieve justice for the Syrian people who suffered horrific crimes, but today we stand side by side with the international community to hold criminals accountable and ensure the rule of justice,” Al-Shibani added.

The Minister also met with Catherine Bomberger, the Director General of the International Commission on Missing Persons where he stressed that the meeting aims to improve cooperation in the field of searching for forcibly disappeared persons and revealing the fate of the missing in Syria, adding that we will not rest until we know the fate of every missing person, or until every family gets its right to know the truth and grieve in peace.

Al-Shaibani tweeted that he held talks with his Dutch counterpart, Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, to open a new page in Syrian-Dutch relations in a way that serves our two countries, our peoples, and the Syrian community in the Netherlands.

Al-Shaibani concluded his tweet on the X platform, saying that at the end of the day, a special discussion was held under the auspices of the Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, and in the presence of a number of ambassadors.
