London, SANA- Britain announced on Thursday its intention to amend the sanctions regime imposed on Syria after the fall of the former regime, while ensuring the continuation of the asset freeze and travel ban imposed on key figures from the former government.

“We are making these changes to support the Syrian people in rebuilding their country and to promote security and stability.” Reuters quoted Minister of State of the United Kingdom for Europe and North America, Stephen Doughty as saying.

He added, “The government remains determined to hold Bashar al-Assad and his allies accountable for their actions against the Syrian people.
