Statement by the New Administration of Syria congratulating President Donald J. Trump on his inauguration

Damascus, SANA- On behalf of the leadership and people of the Syrian Arab Republic, I congratulate Mr. Donald J. Trump on his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States of America. His selection is a testament to the trust placed in his leadership by the American people.

The past decade has brought immense suffering to Syria, with the conflict devastating our nation and destabilizing the region. We are confident that he is the leader to bring peace to the Middle East and restore stability to the region.

We look forward to improving the relations between our two countries based on dialogue and understanding. We have faith that, with this administration, the United States and Syria will take the opportunity to form a partnership that reflects the aspirations of both nations.

We extend our heartfelt wishes for his success as President and for the enduring strength and prosperity of the American people.
