According to the Ministry of Energy’s statement on its Telegram channel, the congress serves as a global platform for examining challenges linked to climate change, water scarcity, the rising risks of floods and drought, and growing pressure on water-infrastructure systems across many countries. The meetings also provided space to present innovative solutions and leading practices in sustainable water-resource management.

In his address, Abu Zeid affirmed Syria’s commitment to strengthening regional and international cooperation in the water field and participating actively in global efforts to develop this vital sector. He said national priorities include expanding desalination projects, managing water demand, improving the efficiency of drinking-water and wastewater networks, and advancing infrastructure development and governance to enhance services delivered to citizens.

The congress opened Monday and continues through 5 December. Syria’s participation reflects the Ministry of Energy’s approach to broadening international partnerships and gaining access to advanced expertise and technologies that support national efforts toward more sustainable, efficient and resilient water services.
