The U.S. Department of State announced that President Donald Trump‘s administration supports lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria under the “Caesar Act,” through the “National Defense Authorization Act” currently under discussion by U.S. lawmakers.
“The United States maintains regular communication with its partners in the region and welcomes any investment or engagement in Syria that helps provide opportunities for all Syrians to build a peaceful and prosperous nation.” Reuters quoted a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department as saying on Friday.
On October 10, the U.S. Senate voted by majority in favor of a provision within the Department of Defense budget bill that calls for repealing the “Caesar Act.” The bill now requires approval from the House of Representatives and the signature of President Trump to become law.
