Memo of Understanding between SANA and Petra to Enhance Media Cooperation

Amman – SANA

Director General of the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) Ziyad Al-Mahamid, and Director General of Jordan News Agency (Petra) Fayrouz Al-Mubaydeen, signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding tin Amman to enhance cooperation between the two brotherly countries in the fields of journalism and media services.

SANA’s correspondent in Amman said the memorandum aims to strengthen joint efforts between the two agencies through the exchange of news, photos, media content, technical expertise and coordination in international media forums.

This collaboration seeks to promote the quality of media output for both institutions and promote unified Arab media.

Director General of SANA stressed the importance of intensifying cooperation among Arab media institutions to counter the spread of rumors and provide accurate, reliable information—especially in light of the challenges facing the region and the widespread influence of social media on news credibility.

Al-Mahamid also presented an overview of SANA’s recent developments, including its relaunch and the technical and professional upgrades introduced to meet the demands of modern media.

He referred to the agreements and memoranda of understanding that SANA has signed and renewed with other Arab and friendly news agencies.

For her part, Petra’s Director General welcomed the Syrian delegation and emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise between the two agencies, particularly in journalism, training, skill development, and technical innovation—especially amid the rapid digital transformation and technological advancements in modern media.

Al-Mubaydeen noted that training in various journalistic disciplines plays a vital role in developing human capital and enriching journalistic identity, calling for the adoption of modern and reliable mechanisms that meet the demands of today’s media landscape.

In a relevant context, Petra’s department directors provided a detailed explanation of editorial work and media production, including news writing and editing, digital content design, photography, translation, and information security, as well as the agency’s efforts to enhance the capabilities of its journalistic and technical staff.

The visit concluded with a field tour for the Syrian delegation across Petra’s departments, offering insights into the agency’s daily operations and its role in strengthening media content.
