Jumblatt: international or Israeli protection is an infringement on Syria’s sovereignty

Beirut, SANA- Former head of the Progressive Socialist Party in Lebanon, Walid Jumblatt, called for commitment to the ceasefire agreement in southern Syria saying that any calls for international or Israeli protection represent an infringement on Syria’s sovereignty and the National and Arab History of Sweida.

“The comprehensive political solution is the only path to preserving the dignity of the Syrian state and addressing the legitimate demands of the people of Jabal al-Arab,” Jumblatt was quoted by Lebanese news agency as saying.

He underlined the “need to launch a dialogue between all religious, political, and sectarian components under the auspices of the state”.

Jumblatt also called for halting escalation and taking steps to avoid further tensions and said: “Syrian Druze are an integral part of the Syrian national and Arab fabric. It is unacceptable to strip them of their Arab identity or treat them as a separated entity from their natural surroundings”.
