British Foreign Secretary: Syria’s stability is important to the UK’s national interest

London, SANA- British Foreign Secretary David Lammy stressed that Syria’s stability is important to the UK’s national interest, as it has a direct impact on key issues such as terrorism, regional stability, and irregular migration.

In a speech at the House of Commons of the UK published on the official British government website, Lammy expressed concern over the events in southern Syria and the rapidly escalating clashes accompanied by Israeli airstrikes, calling for a ceasefire, the protection of Syrians and their rights, and an investigation into these events to hold those responsible accountable.

Lammy also called for respect for Syria’s sovereignty and ensuring the resumption of humanitarian access and delivery, saying, “The United Kingdom can be proud of its support for the Syrian people over many years.”

The British Foreign Secretary stressed the need to reject extremism and sectarianism and prevent the spread of chaos, believing that this stance was what prompted Britain to support a “sustainable ceasefire” and a ” inclusive transition process.”
