Jordan’s King rejects “Greater Israel” vision, backs Syria’s unity

Amman, SANA- Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Monday reaffirmed his country’s rejection of Israeli statements promoting the so-called “Greater Israel” vision, as well as unilateral measures in the West Bank and settlement expansion, calling them violations of international law and an infringement on Palestinians’ right to establish an independent state.

The King delivered the remarks during a meeting with a visiting U.S. Congressional delegation that included Senators Markwayne Mullin and Joni Ernst, and Representatives Jason Smith and Jimmy Panetta, according to the Jordan News Agency (Petra).

Talks also focused on regional developments, particularly Syria, where the King stressed the importance of supporting efforts to preserve security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

On Gaza, King Abdullah called for an immediate ceasefire and the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid, while rejecting Israeli plans to consolidate its occupation and expand military control of the territory.

The King also underlined the role of the United States in promoting stability and highlighted the strength of Jordan’s strategic partnership with Washington, saying both sides were keen to deepen their ties.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of his government have continued pursuing policies in defiance of international resolutions. Netanyahu recently voiced support for the “Greater Israel” concept, revealing expansionist ambitions covering occupied Palestinian land as well as parts of Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt.
