Germany reaffirms support for Syria’s recovery at Hamburg conference

Germany reaffirms support for Syria's recovery at Hamburg conference

Hamburg, June 30 (SANA) Syrian Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Kabawat and German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali-Radovan took part in a panel discussion at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference on Tuesday titled “Advancing Stability, Resilience and Governance in Syria and the Region.”

The session was attended by Mohammad Baraa Shukri, chargé d’affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Berlin.

Speaking to SANA on the sidelines of the conference, Alabali-Radovan reaffirmed Germany’s support for Syria’s recovery and development efforts.

“We strongly support Syria’s new path and remain committed to development cooperation,” she said. “It was important for me, as Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, to discuss Syria at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, and I was pleased to share the panel with Minister Hind Kabawat as a sign of the strong relationship between our two countries.”

Alabali-Radovan said Germany aims to help create opportunities for young Syrians and support the country’s long-term development.

“We want to strengthen Syria, create better prospects for young people and contribute to building a better future for all Syrians,” she said.

She highlighted the cooperation with the Syrian community in Germany saying that around 1,200 Syrians in Germany—particularly entrepreneurs creating jobs in Syria.

She also pointed to partnerships between German and Syrian medical institutions and Germany’s support for justice-sector reform as part of broader efforts to assist Syria’s recovery.

The Hamburg Sustainability Conference brings together political leaders, international organizations and private-sector representatives to advance cooperation on sustainable development and investment.

Syria’s participation marks its first official presence at the conference and reflects its engagement with international platforms dedicated to sustainable development, investment, urban recovery and reconstruction planning.
