Cairo, Feb. 4 (SANA) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reaffirmed their support for efforts to boost regional stability and safeguard Syria’s sovereignty and territorial unity.
This came during a joint press conference in Cairo on Wednesday, concluding the second High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting between the two countries.
Support for Syria’s Unity and Stability
President El-Sisi stated that the talks addressed in detail the latest developments in Syria, stressing Egypt’s full support for the country’s unity and sovereignty.
“We welcomed the recent agreement between the Syrian government and the SDF, which we hope will help preserve the country’s unity and guarantee the rights of all national components,” El-Sisi added.
The Egyptian President noted that Cairo and Ankara agree on the importance of supporting efforts to end the crisis in a way that safeguards state institutions and protects the interests of the Syrian people.
For his part, President Erdoğan affirmed that Turkey supports efforts to preserve Syria’s unity and stability, stressing that a politically and territorially unified Syrian state serves the interests of the entire region.
President Erdoğan added that Ankara is determined to continue supporting Syria’s transformation process, describing Egypt’s stance on preserving Syria’s unity as correct and widely supported.
Condemnation of Israeli Violations
In their joint declaration following the second High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, Egypt and Turkey reaffirmed their firm commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, unity, stability, and territorial integrity. They strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing violations and stressed the need for Israel to adhere to the 1974 disengagement agreement.
Both sides underlined the importance of reconstruction efforts and boosting the capacities of Syrian state institutions.
