Turkish Interior Minister: 578,000 Syrians return voluntarily since Liberation

Ankara, Dec. 16 (SANA) The Turkish Interior Ministry announced Tuesday that 578,000 Syrians have voluntarily returned to their homeland in a safe and organized manner since Syria’s liberation on December 8, 2024.

In a statement posted on the ministry’s website, Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya, said that Syrians who learned Turkish and built strong ties will serve as “goodwill ambassadors,” strengthening friendship between Syrians and Turks.

Yerlikaya had previously announced in November that 550,000 Syrians had returned from Turkey following the fall of the former regime.

Turkey topped the list of countries hosting the Syrian refugees worldwide, having welcomed millions since the start of the Syrian revolution.
