Washington, Dec. 11 (SANA) U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson expressed his gratitude to the House of Representatives for approving the full repeal of the Caesar Act as part of the Department of Defense budget for 2026.
Wilson said Wednesday in a post on the X platform: “Grateful that the House of Representatives passed the full repeal of the Caesar Act as part of the NDAA.”
He added: “I was grateful to introduce the House legislation for full repeal back in May and to lead efforts in the House for the past six months. Grateful for the support of President Trump, Ambassador Barrack, and Senator Shaheen in making this a reality.”
Wilson expressed his hope that the Senate would pass the bill within days, allowing it to proceed to President Trump’s desk for signature.
Earlier Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted by a majority to repeal the sanctions imposed on Syria under the Caesar Act, which was enacted in December 2019 to penalize the former regime for war crimes committed against the Syrian people during the years of the uprising.
The repeal was comprehensive and unconditional. It was included as a provision in the U.S. Department of Defense budget bill, following extensive diplomatic efforts by the Syrian government, supported by the Syrian community and active Syrian-American organizations in Washington, as well as by allied and friendly countries working to lift sanctions that have burdened the Syrian people.
