Syria condemned, in the strongest terms, the criminal Israeli attack on the town of Beit Jinn in the Damascus countryside, describing it as a “full-fledged war crime,” and called on the UN Security Council to take measures to stop Israel’s policy of aggression.
The aggression early Friday martyred 13 Syrians and injured dozens of others, according to medical officials.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed in a statement that an Israeli force infiltrated the town of Beit Jinn at dawn on Friday, attacking local residents and their property. The assault triggered direct clashes after residents confronted the infiltrating force.
The statement added that after the infiltration attempt failed, “the occupation forces’ deliberate and brutal shelling of the town of Beit Jinn constitutes a full-fledged war crime, having committed a horrific massacre that claimed the lives of more than ten civilians, including women and children, and caused large-scale displacement due to the continued, deliberate, and barbaric shelling of the homes of peaceful residents.”
“The Syrian Arab Republic holds the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for this grave aggression and the resulting casualties and destruction. It considers that the continuation of these criminal attacks threatens security and stability in the region and reflects a systematic policy aimed at destabilizing conditions and imposing an aggressive reality by force,” the statement added.
The ministry renewed Syria’s call on the Security Council, the United Nations, and the League of Arab States to take urgent action to put an end to the repeated Israeli violations against the Syrian people, and to adopt deterrent measures that ensure respect for international law, the UN Charter, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.
The statement affirmed that Syria will continue to exercise its legitimate right to defend its land and people by all means recognized under international law, stressing that these crimes will only strengthen its adherence to its rights, sovereignty, and rejection of all forms of occupation and aggression.
