The Council of Arab Information Ministers voted unanimously on Wednesday at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo to designate Damascus as the Arab Media Capital for 2028.
The decision was made during the council’s 55th session, chaired by the Syrian Arab Republic after formally assuming the presidency of the council.
In a post on Platform X, Minister of Information Hamza al-Mustafa said the vote reflects Syria’s regained standing in the Arab arena, adding that the country has reclaimed its voice after years of significant challenges.
Al-Mustafa added that choosing Damascus as the Arab Media Capital for 2028 demonstrates the region’s support for Syria and underscores the country’s contributions to joint Arab media work.
The Arab Media Capitals program also confirmed Rabat as the Arab Media Capital for 2026 and Doha for 2027. The program will include a theme dedicated to Jerusalem, highlighting its spiritual, cultural, and urban significance.
