Syria is acting with responsibility to eliminate remnants of chemical weapon-Ambassador

Syria’s Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Mohammad Katoub, said Syria today is a responsible state, committed to its international obligations, and is working to eliminate the remnants of chemical weapons that are scattered across certain Syrian’s regions as the country had been subjected to more than 200 chemical attacks during the era of the deposed regime.

Speaking via video link from the Syrian mission headquarters in The Hague to Syrian news channel al-Ikhbariya TV, Katoub added that the Syrian mission to the OPCW has resumed its work after months of suspension following liberation, while Syria still lacks voting rights due to crimes committed by the deposed regime.

“Justice for the victims and accountability for the perpetrators are key issues to Syria’s method and I am proud to represent Syria in this highly sensitive file,” the Syrian diplomat said.

Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, announced Friday the appointment of Mohammad Katoub as Syria’s Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
