Minister Al-Mustafa: Lifting sanctions will boost global investment in Syria

Syrian Minister of Information Hamza Al-Mustafa stated that lifting international sanctions would encourage companies worldwide to invest in Syria, highlighting Turkey’s pivotal role in persuading the United States to ease restrictions.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency during the “TRT World Forum 2025” in Istanbul, Al-Mustafa praised Turkey’s strong ties with Western nations, particularly the U.S., saying: “Turkey played a positive role in convincing President Donald Trump to lift sanctions. This will undoubtedly facilitate and accelerate Syria’s reconstruction in the coming period.”

He noted that the executive order issued by President Trump to lift sanctions remains in effect but acknowledged ongoing challenges in convincing the U.S. Congress to repeal the Caesar Act.

Al-Mustafa emphasized Turkey’s support for Syria’s reconstruction, describing Ankara’s stance as “clear and unwavering” in backing the Syrian people against the former Assad regime. “After 14 years, and especially following the collapse of the former regime, Turkey is now in a position to help Syria overcome obstacles and support its transition,” he said.

The minister described Syria’s reconstruction as a multidisciplinary effort, with the Ministry of Information playing a key role in rebuilding social cohesion. He criticized the previous regime’s use of media as propaganda tools and stressed the ministry’s current efforts to restructure the media landscape based on professionalism and objectivity.

A deep and transformative shift is underway, Al-Mustafa said, adding that the ministry is promoting “peace journalism” — a model of constructive and responsible reporting. He believes this approach will be essential in rebuilding both the country and its people.

He also acknowledged the political and sectarian divisions inherited from the former regime, stating that the ministry’s mission is to reunite Syrians under a shared national identity. “Our task is to build bridges within Syrian society and combat sectarian rhetoric,” he affirmed.

On the humanitarian front, Al-Mustafa underscored the importance of repatriating displaced Syrians, expressing optimism that many refugees will return soon as stability is restored across the country.

The minister’s remarks came during a panel titled “Syria’s New Dawn: Charting the Path of Reconstruction” at the TRT World Forum, where he presented Syria’s post-liberation media vision.
