France issues arrest warrant against criminal Bashar Assad over 2012 bombing

Paris, SANA-French judicial authorities have issued arrest warrants for the deposed Bashar Assad along with six former senior officials over the 2012 killing of journalists in Homs, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) said on Tuesday.

Agence France-Presse reported that the French authorities issued 7 international arrest warrants, including warrants against Bashar al-Assad and Maher al-Assad, against the backdrop of a bombing that targeted a media center in the Baba Amr neighborhood in the city of Homs in 2012, which resulted in the killing of American journalist Marie Colvin and French photographer Remy Ochlik.

The agency added that the arrest warrants also included Ali Mamlouk, Director of General Intelligence, and both Ali Ayoub and Rafiq Shehadeh, security officials in Homs at the time.

Assad escaped with his family to Russia after being ousted by Syrian revolution at the end of 2024.
