Washington, May 28 (SANA) Apple is reportedly developing a new security feature for iPhones aimed at combating “snatch theft” incidents through an intelligent system capable of detecting when a device is suddenly taken from its user and instantly locking it.
According to technology reports published Wednesday, the feature relies on motion sensors inside the iPhone, including the accelerometer, to identify unusual or aggressive movements that may indicate a theft attempt.
Once suspicious movement is detected, the device would automatically lock to prevent unauthorized access to personal data or open applications.
The upcoming feature is expected to build on Apple’s existing security systems, including “Find My,” “Activation Lock,” and “Stolen Device Protection,” which uses biometric verification and delayed security actions to protect sensitive settings and user accounts.
Reports also suggest the system could integrate with the Apple Watch to detect when an iPhone suddenly moves away from its owner, increasing the likelihood of identifying theft attempts and triggering protective measures automatically.
Similar anti-theft systems are already available on some Android devices under features such as “Theft Detection Lock,” which use artificial intelligence and motion analysis to identify suspicious behavior.
Although Apple has not officially announced a release date, reports indicate that software references suggest the feature could appear in future iOS updates.
