Google releases second beta of Android 17 with new features and security updates

Washington, March 1 (SANA) Google has released the second beta version of its upcoming Android 17 operating system for eligible Pixel devices as part of the Android Beta program, introducing new features and expanded security enhancements.

In a post on the Android Developers blog, the company said the update focuses on improving performance, boosting energy efficiency and strengthening privacy and security tools.

Among the new features is the ability to create floating app bubbles by long-pressing an app icon in the taskbar, allowing applications to run in multi-window mode. The update also expands one-time password (OTP) protections to help reduce digital fraud attempts.

Google introduced a new application programming interface (API) called “EyeDropper,” enabling users to select a color from any pixel displayed on the screen without requiring additional permissions. The company also redesigned the contact picker tool to provide temporary and limited access to user data.

In addition, Google added a “Handoff” feature that allows users to resume tasks across multiple Android devices, aiming to improve integration between smartphones, tablets and foldable devices.

The company said it plans to continue beta testing in the coming months ahead of the official release of the stable version of Android 17.
