A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the western coast of East Timor, near Indonesia, on Monday. There were no reports of injuries or damage.
The epicenter was approximately 48 kilometers northwest of Banteay Makassar, at a depth of 96 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Authorities did not issue a tsunami warning following the earthquake.
East Timor and Indonesia lie within the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an area known for frequent seismic and volcanic activity. For years, the region has experienced regular earthquakes, keeping residents on alert for such natural disasters.
