China Ranks Second Globally in New Drug Development

Beijing SANA-China has secured the second position worldwide in the development of new pharmaceuticals, according to the National Health Commission. Domestically researched drugs now account for more than one-fifth of global totals.

The Commission highlighted a number of innovative treatments, including cancer therapies such as Zanubrutinib, which have received international regulatory approval—strengthening China’s standing in the global pharmaceutical industry.

Commission head Li Haichao also noted that China has built the world’s largest healthcare and disease prevention system, comprising more than 1.09 million medical institutions and employing approximately 15.78 million healthcare professionals.
