Occupied Jerusalem, Sept. 1 (SANA) Two Palestinian children were killed and others injured in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, a day after the United Nations raised concern over civilian casualties and damage to humanitarian infrastructure in the territory.
At least one child was killed and several people were injured in an Israeli strike near the al-Katiba area west of Gaza City, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported, citing medical sources.
A Palestinian girl was also killed by Israeli fire east of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, the sources said.
The latest casualties came after UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Monday that reports indicated civilians, including a child, had been killed in Gaza and that the Al-Aqsa Hospital complex in Deir al-Balah had been damaged in an Israeli strike.
Dujarric reiterated that civilians and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, must be protected.
The United Nations has also warned that humanitarian operations in Gaza face growing obstacles as aid agencies prepare for the rainy season and seek to reduce flood risks at hundreds of locations across the territory.
According to Dujarric, those efforts are being hampered by funding shortages, Israeli restrictions on the entry and quantity of materials, and shortages of engine oil, spare parts and heavy machinery.
Humanitarian agencies also lack access to large parts of Gaza, including areas less vulnerable to flooding that could be used to accommodate tents, he said.
Separately, a Palestinian man was injured and 23 others were detained during Israeli operations in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank earlier Tuesday.
