Syria in cooperation with WFP Launch of Rapid Response Program to Support Fire Victims

Lattakia, SANA- Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Amjad Badr, announced Wednesday the launch of a rapid response program in cooperation with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to support those affected by the fires that broke out a few days ago in Lattakia province.

Minister Badr, Lattakia Governor Mohammed Othman, and the program’s Deputy Country Director Khaled Othman toured the Qastal Maaf area, northern Lattakia countryside, to acquaint the situation and assess the extent of the damage to agricultural lands.

The Minister indicated that the necessary support would be provided to those affected, in cooperation with the organization, at all technical levels, including damaged agricultural crops, agricultural supplies, infrastructure services, and water related matters that had been cut off from some areas of the province.

Minister Badr pointed out that the ministry has begun preparing the necessary surveys to re-establish infrastructure to avoid similar disasters in the future, indicating that the areas damaged by the fires were estimated at 15,000 hectares.
