Civil Defense battles wildfires in Lattakia to prevent spreading to “Al-Furnloq Reserve”

Lattakia, SANA- Civil Defence teams are battling wildfires sweeping through Lattakia countryside for the fourth day, with special efforts paid to prevent the fires from reaching “Al-Furnloq Reserve” which includes large interconnected forests.

The Director of the Civil Defense in the Syrian Coast, Abdul Kafi Kayyal, said that big efforts are excreted by civil defense teams to “clear roads with heavy machinery to separate the Fire hotspots, with the aim of enabling access and extinguishing them.”

In a press statement, Kayyal said that that the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management “mobilized all its capabilities, in coordination with various ministries and organizations, to unify efforts to control the fire as quickly as possible.”

He expected to “control of the fire within the coming hours, with the assistance of the Jordanian Civil Defense, which arrived in Syria today, and the Turkish Civil Defense, which has been participating in extinguishing fires for two days.”

“The Civil Defense managed to protect civilians, and evacuate some families near the fire site” Kayyal added.

Jordanian Civil Defense teams arrived this morning via Nassib border crossing to help extinguish the fires in the Latakia countryside, which have been raging for four consecutive days.
