Emergency Minister: Agreement with Turkey to participate in firefighting efforts in Lattakia countryside

Lattakia, SANA- Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed al-Saleh, announced Saturday that an agreement has been reached with Turky to participate in putting out the forest fires that are widely spread in Lattakia countryside.

“We held a field meeting with the Turkish side at the border area of Yila Dag, near Turkmen Mountain, to coordinate joint intervention and response to Lattakkia’s forest fires,” Minister al-Saleh said in a press statement.

It was agreed that two firefighting helicopters would participate this morning (Saturday), and 11 vehicles (8 fire engines and 3 water supply annexes) entered to participate in the extinguishing operations, the statement added.

Al-Saleh noted that the Turkish participation was scheduled for yesterday evening, but sudden wildfires in Turkey delayed the arrival of the teams until this morning.

Firefighting, emergency and civil defense teams from various ministries and provinces are working to control the fires that have widely spread across large areas north of Lattakia countryside.
