Syrian, Italian talks to advance cooperation in ICT

Syrian, Italian talks to advance cooperation in ICT

Damascus, SANA-Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdul Salam Haykal discussed with Italian Ambassador to Syria, Stefano Ravagnan, ways to develop bilateral cooperation in the fields of communications and information technology.

During the meeting, Minister Haykal outlined the ongoing plans and programs to develop Syria’s digital infrastructure, including the “Silk Link” project, which aims to transform the country into a regional and international internet hub.

Haykal also announced the launch of a request for information for the “Barq Net” project, which aims to extend fiber optics and provide high-speed internet service. This project is part of a timetable to connect 85% of Syrian homes and institutions within two years.

For his part, the Italian Ambassador expressed his country’s welcome for the restoration of relations between Syria and Italy, stressing the willingness of Italian companies to cooperate and offer their expertise to support and develop the ICT sector in Syria in all fields.
