Syria, Switzerland discuss bilateral cooperation in field of local administration

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Mohammad Anjarani, met Tuesday with Marion Weichelt Krupski, head of the Swiss mission in Damascus, to discuss bilateral cooperation in the field of local administration and the exchange of expertise and knowledge.

During the meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters, Minister Anjarani expressed his appreciation for the Swiss government’s support for the Syrian people, emphasizing Switzerland’s pioneering experience in local governance.

He highlighted the importance of sharing expertise and knowledge on the transition from central authority to decentralization and the activation of local councils.

Anjarani also noted that efforts are currently underway to restructure the ministry through regulatory frameworks that serve the community, along with preparing the necessary infrastructure to facilitate the return of displaced persons to their homes.

For her part, Krupski explained that the purpose of the Swiss mission’s visit to Damascus is to assess the Syrian government’s needs in the field of local administration and to discuss areas of cooperation in public services, water management, and technical institutes, as well as training skilled professionals in governance.
